I AM NOT AFRAID OF GHOSTS,
OR OF THE PEOPLE WHO HUNT THEM?
Story
by Mark Goldberg, Art by Ricardo Pustanio
IS
IT WRONG TO SAY PEOPLE WHO BELIVE IN GHOST
ARE CRAZY? OR IS IT MORE WRONG TO SAY
THE PERSONS WHO BELIVE THEM ARE THE REAL
CRAZY ONES?
You should be afraid very afraid. Yes
there is great danger in all that is paranormal
and haunted. To too many people ignore
the warnings on shows on television today.
Carelessly or ignorantly thinking oh look
it's fun I want to and can do that.
Not to many people realize the many problems
that real ghosts can cause you or the
problems you can cause this person or
persons who are being haunted. Many people
do not see the fragile problems a haunter
individual or family is going through.
Many tend to state their fears but novice
ghost hunters tend to not realize the
depth of a persons emotions or mental
state.
Just by going into a persons home and
justifying their fears telling them yes
you have a ghost or a real haunting of
some type might throw them into a state
of intense fear or ill adjustment. It's
a wonder not to many people who are just
beginning ghost hunting are not being
sued.
I think just because I saw a ghost once
I am here now witting another article
about why ghost and ghost hunting is real
. And why and how allot of not so important
people are messing things up for everyone.
Why do I care? At least enough to write
about it with skeptical view... No! Because
I care about the real individuals in the
field like myself who need be exposed
as the ones we should look up to and follow
their standards.
If I I had to pick the king of the ghost
hunter today I would say Hanz Holzer.
and I would make Troy Taylor, Mark Nesbitt,
John Zaffis and Gina Lanier his Main team
leaders.
In a persons Like John Zaffis's team
I would put members like Greg Myers of
Paranormal Task Force, Lisa Lee Harp Waugh
The Great American Necromancer, and Pete
Haviland from Lone Star spirits.
Why group these people together? Because
they are all dedicated and the research
they do is from t he heart. I truly believe
these individuals would really be a force
to be reckoned with because of each of
their skills.
If more ghost hunting groups would align
themselves with the mover and shakers
in the field of paranormal investigation
then less post ghost hunting stress would
not be happening. Their should be stricter
guidelines to what every ghost hunting
group around the world adheres to the
main one is more professionalism.
RULES FOR INVESTIGATING
A REAL HAUNTED PERSON OR LOCATION
1. LET THE CLIENT KNOW THAT YOU
ARE ONLY THERE TO VALIDATE PARANORMAL
ACTIVITY.
2. DO NOT GIVE ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS
LIKE: IS IT EVIL? CAN IT HURT
ME OR MY CHILDREN? AM I OR MY
FAMILY IN ANY FORM DANGER? CAUSING
A FAMILY TO PANIC AND FEAR THE
WORSE CAN MAKE A HAUNTING GO OFF
THE SCALE IN A PERSONS MIND.
3. ALWAYS LOOK FOR RATIONAL ANSWERS.
DO YOUR HOME WORK RESEARCH THE
HOME THE NEIGHBERHOOD, AND THE
FAMILY.
4. WHEN ANY OF YOUR CONLUSIONS
DON'T GIVE YOU ANY CONCLUSIVE
ANSWERS AND THE EVIDENCE YOU HAVE
OVERWHELEMS YOU THEN CONTACT SOMONE
WHO HAS MORE EXPERIENCE THEN YOUR
SELF. PARICUALARLY SOMONE YOU
WOULD CONSIDER AN EXPERT IN THE
FEILD OF THE PARANORMAL.
5. OBSERVE ALL THAT IS GOING
ON AND DOCUMENT YOUR ACTIONS AS
WELL AS YOUR TEAM. HOLD YOUR INVESTIGATION
JUST AS A POLICE OR DETECTIVE
WOULD. REMEBER YOU ARE A PARANOMAL
FORENSIC CASE EXAMINER.
Ghost hunting groups need to seek out
more competent persons to be part of their
studies. consider contacting a person
of the Catholic church or a minister.
Get them to be part of your group or act
as an advisor. Bring them the evidence
you gather and see what their thoughts
are. Also consider doing the same with
an psychiatrist, or a person in the field
of mental health. and a well known ghost
expert or Paranormal Investigator to see
what their thoughts are before you actually
tell the haunted family of your findings.
The input these people have will make
your investigation the best there is to
offer.
A lot of groups that hunt ghosts today
are filled with people like you and me.
some are their because oh I saw a ghost
once or I see it and it interest me. Or
I can be famous.
I know of people who just use the field
to try to make a name for themselves just
by exploiting a ghost haunting and writing
about it to get there names in print.
Many paranormal groups today do not screen
their members well enough and because
of this groups fall to the way say, egos
get in the way and a bad name effects
us all because of these groups misleading
actions.
I have set up a few protocols I think
Ghost Haunting groups should start to
follow. In speaking with many Paranormal
Big names and visiting their many wonderful
Paranormal filled pages have learned a
few important insights in how experts
through the same procedures we the novice
have learned.
GROUP PARANORMAL GUIDELINES
1. SCREEN AND CHOSE WHO YOU WANT IN YOUR
GROUP. DON'T JUST GO OUT AND ALLOW ANYONE
TO HUNT GHOSTS. PEOPLE WITH MENTAL PROBLEMS,
SUCH AS GREAT FEARS, THRILL SEAKERS, AND
THOSE WITH EGOS THE SIZE OF ENTIRE PARANORMAL
WORLD NEED NOT APPY.
Most real Paranormal investigators are
hunting ghosts not because they are just
interested in ghosts and the strange it's
because it is a calling to them. everyone
who is making a name for them selves today
in the field have either been touched
or moved, or had a life changing event
that has made them set out on a personal
journey to find like minded individuals
to make some clear insight into their
own lives.
2. WATCH ALL THE MEMEBRS OF YOUR GROUP
FOR SIGNS OF POSSESSION, OR PERSONALITY
SHIFTS. OR EGO CHANGES.
Don't be afraid of anything but your
own fears. If you believe a ghost can
hurt you then it can. If you believe a
ghost can physically " F-up your
life" it will. If you see anyone
in group who is experiencing a personality
change because of investigating ghosts...
TELL THEM. Be honest to them and send
them to someone to be evaluated.
Many do not realize that to some finding
and being with others who have conquered
their fears makes people feel secure.
And as a collective group weak individuals
sometimes grow back bones they never had
before. These meek people because of the
status that ghost hunting gives them makes
them do everything from starting a ghost
hunters group take over to even bringing
out traits that are not this person by
nature.
This in truth is sometimes the result
of these individuals going out and hunting
ghosts, and the ghosts attaches them selves
to these persons and possess's them. They
are now under the control of a ghost,
paranormal force or demon and don't know
it.
3. DON'T LET MEMBERS OF YOUR GROUP DEAL
WITH CLIENTS OR GIVE THEM PERSONAL OPPINIONS.
A GROUP IS A COLLECTIVE. AND ONLY SPEAK
TO THE CLIENT. IF YOU ARE A TEAM THEN
YOU ACT LIKE TEAM. EVERYONES OPPION COUNTS.
YOU SIT DOWN AS A GROUP AND PREPARE A
STATEMENT TO THELL THE HAUNTED PERSON.
JUST LIKE A JURY DECIEDS A PERSONS FATE
YOU ARE DOING THE SAME TO THIS PERSON!
YOU ARE INESSENCE TELLING THEM YES YOU
ARE CRAZY AND THE PLACE IS NOT HAUNTED
OR YOUR NORMAL AND NOT SAFE.
To many people in groups tend to want
to be the expert. Everyone has the voice
to tell their opinions. Then does that
make someone with no background or hundreds
of investigations under their belt any
more an expert then someone who knows
from experience that what you tell a person
can affect them for the rest of their
lives?
4. WHO SHOULD BE ALLOWED ON YOUR TEAM?
OR INTRUDUCED INTO YOUR GROUP ON DIFFERENT
LEVELS. MORE GROUPS NOW ADAYS DO NOT HAVE
MEETINGS. YOU NEED TO SIT DOWN AND GET
TO KNOW TO PEOPLE AND GIVE THEM RULES
TO FOLLOW ON HOW YOU HOLD YOUR PARANORMAL
INVESTIGATIONS. JUST BECAUSE YOU SEE HOW
THEY DO IT ON TV DOESN'T MEAN THE PPERSON
IN YOUR GROUP NOW THAT. ALSO CONSIDER
TRAING THEM AND COMING UP WITH YOUR OWN
TEAM OR ENTIRE GROUP PROCEDURE. ALSO PICK
TEAM LEADERS. AND DOCUMENT EVERYTHING
YOU AND THEY DO. YES GHOST HUNTING IS
A JOB. AND THE REASON YOUR NOT GETTING
PAID IS BECAUSE IT IS PERSONAL RESEARCH
NOT A VALID SERVICE.
5. NO GHOST BUSTING! AS A GOUP UNLESS
YOUR A PARANOMAL MINSTRY GHOST INVESTIGATION
TEAM SHOULD NOT GO INTO A HOME AND PRAY
UNLESS EVERYONE IS TRULY BELIEVE IN THE
SAME CAUSE. REMEBER WHAT I SAID ABOUT
TEAM WORK. IF A MEMEBR OF YOUR GROUP IS
A PIRITUAL PERSON THATS FINE BUT REMEBER
MANY OF YOUR CLIENTS ARE NOT SPITRITUAL
AND YOU ARE AGAIN IMPARTING SOMETHING
ON THEM THAT THEY ARE THE GHOST MAY REJECT.
THIS OFTEN CAUSES HAUNTING TO BECOME VIOLENT
DURING AND AFTER AN INVESTIGATION. AGAIN
BE THE OBSERVER NOT THE PERSON WHO GOES
IN AND CHANGES A PERSONS LIFE. UNLESS
YOU AND THE PERSON ON YOUR TEAM OR QUALIFIED
BY PROFFESION TO DO SO. QUALIFIED MEMBERS
OF A TEAM SHOULD BE MADE UP OF MEMEBERS
AS SUCH. IF YOUR A MENTAL HELP SPECIALIES
THEN BE ONENOT SOMONE WHO WORKED OR WAS
ADMITED TO A MENTAL HOSPITAL. I AM NOT
SAYING YOU CAN'T HUNT GHOSTS IF YOUR NOT
ALL I AM SAYING IS. IF YOU WERE LOCKED
UP IN A PRISION ONCE THEN I WOULD LOVE
TO HUNT IN A HAUNTED PRISON WITH YOU BECAUSE
YOU KNOW WHAT IT WAS LIKE TO BE THERE.
Do you remember mission Impossible and
how every week he picked special people
for every job. Then you should do the
same for every haunting you investigate.
structure your groups in teirs. Each team
should be a well knowledge member that
has been on many ghost hunters then a
grade of people from diverse walks of
life. Remember each of these persons has
a designated job and only focus on doing
that and documenting. As new members join
they should be laced low man on the totem
poll until they become structured to start
their own team.
Also consider personalities when making
up of a team and don't put friends who
join together so they all can grow and
learn individually. Then by mixing people
in teams with people who don't know each
other the personal does not interfere
with the paranormal investigation process.
Look you want a group that's working
to wards your goal of proving to the world
that all you personal previous encounters
with ghost and strange happenings in your
life were real. You don't want it to turn
into a dating pool. or a social club that
hunts ghosts and parties all the time.
How many times have I heard about the
haunted groups paranormal lover boy who
has done every guy and girl in the group.
or the groups con artist and incredible
liar.
I hear stories of women in groups that
have met guys hunting for ghosts got married
and had ghost hunting kids. It's not that
fate does not put people together just
get the personal out of the ghost hunt.
documentation ghost hunting is not meant
to be fun. It's meant to be enjoyed by
the person who loves doing research into
it.
Lets say i love hunting ghosts right.
And I am a would be writer. Then I write
or journal my experiences. but if I embellish
the story in my particular style then
that's great I should be the one to write
the articles or book about the groups
adventure. If my own ego is I'm just doing
all this to get attention and make a name
for myself then why am I ghost hunting
in the first place. because my attempts
as a writer have failed elsewhere. Personally
I hunt ghost s and give my opinions on
such because I feel people need to know
what's what.. not because I want to be
some big name and leave my mark on the
world. My motives are clear I want to
research ghosts and prove that all that
is a personal haunted experience to me
was true and I am not alone in my beliefs.
I think Paranormal Investigation is a
religion in a way . one that as a freedom
that the United States grants us to be
individuals in our faith. The fact that
we can research the paranormal live and
write and tell about it and publish our
beliefs openly is a blessing. So why take
advantage of others and use this just
to make a name for your self.
I only want my proof to be validated
to me. And if I see one day that by the
evidence I collect I can prove it ...
then I will.
THE PARANORMAL EXPERTS:
The Real Ghost Hunters
When all else fails they say call in
the experts. If your haunting has gone
all out of control or you need some serious
validation to the strange supernatural
or paranormal occurrences that are happening
to you then seeking expert help is your
only solution. Published authors, lecturers,
radio and television hosts, and more are
all considered part of the ever growing
field of research. Some do not claim to
be experts in the paranormal, as no experts
really exist when it comes to the supernatural,
It's all just gathering information and
experience things on a first hand basis.
Many believe their personal quest is
to just seek out, allegedly haunted locations,

Ghostbusters is a 1984 sci-fi comedy
film about three eccentric New York City
parapsychologists. After they are fired
from a university, they start their own
business investigating and capturing ghosts.
The concept was inspired by Aykroyd's
own fascination with the paranormal, and
it was conceived by Aykroyd as a vehicle
for himself and friend and fellow Saturday
Night Live alum John Belushi.
Ghostbusters was released in the United
States on June 8, 1984, starring Bill
Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Rick
Moranis, Sigourney Weaver, Annie Potts
and Ernie Hudson. The film grossed approximately
USD$240 million in the U.S. and over $50
million abroad during its theatrical run,
more than the second "Indiana Jones"
installment, making it easily the most
successful film of that year, and the
most successful comedy of the 1980s.
The first film sparked the catchphrases
"Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters!"
and "I ain't 'fraid of no ghost(s)."
Both came from the hit theme song written
and performed by Ray Parker, Jr. The song
was a huge hit, staying #1 for three weeks
on Billboard's Hot 100 chart and #1 for
two weeks on the Black Singles chart.
The song earned Parker an Academy Awards
nomination for "Best Song,"
losing to Stevie Wonder's "I Just
Called to Say I Love You" for the
film The Woman In Red.
In 2000, readers of Total Film magazine
voted Ghostbusters the 44th greatest comedy
film of all time. Many believe this was
the start to all the paranormal wonderment
that television and the world knows today
as professional ghost hunting.
BUT WHAT ABOUT THE REAL
GHOSTBUSTERS IN THIS WORLD, WHO ARE THEY?
"The God Father of the Paranormal"
is Professor Hans Holzer, Ph.D., Writer
of 138 books on the supernatural and occult
for the popular market as well as several
plays, musicals, films, and documentaries
and has hosted a television show. His
extensive involvement in researching the
supernatural has included investigating
The Amityville Horror and some of the
most prominent haunted locations around
the world. He has also worked with well-known
trance mediums such as Ethel Johnson-Meyers,
Sybil Leek, Trixie Allingham. Holzer,
is a leading authority in the field of
the paranormal. He has earned his Ph.D.
from the London College of Applied Science.
He was a writer/producer and on camera
personality on the popular NBC series
"In Search Of..." as well as
several other documentaries on the paranormal.

Merryn is also the editor and publisher
of online Merlian News Magazine. America's
leading full-time Parapsychologist.
According to the Parapsychological Association,
parapsychology is the scientific study
of certain types of paranormal phenomena,
or of phenomena which appear to be paranormal.
The term is based on the Greek para (beside/beyond),
psyche (soul/mind), and logos (account/explanation)
and was coined by psychologist Max Dessoir
in or before 1889. Its first appearance
was in an article by Dessoir in the June
1889 issue of the German publication Sphinx.
J. B. Rhine later popularized "parapsychology"
as a replacement for the earlier term
"psychical research", during
a shift in methodologies which brought
experimental methods to the study of psychic
phenomena. In contemporary research, the
term 'parapsychology' refers to the study
of psi, a general blanket term used by
academic parapsychologists to denote anomalous
processes or outcomes
The scientific reality of parapsychological
phenomena and the validity of scientific
parapsychological research is a matter
of frequent dispute and criticism. The
field is regarded by critics as a pseudoscience.
Parapsychologists, in turn, say that parapsychological
research is scientifically rigorous. Despite
criticisms, a number of academic institutions
now conduct research on the topic, employing
laboratory methodologies and statistical
techniques, such as meta-analysis.[citation
needed] The Parapsychological Association
is the leading association for parapsychologists
and has been a member of the American
Association for the Advancement of Science
since 1969.
The Parapsychological Association was
formed in 1957 as a professional society
for parapsychologists following an initiative
by J.B. Rhine. Its purpose has been "to
advance parapsychology as a science, to
disseminate knowledge of the field, and
to integrate the findings with those of
other branches of science." It holds
annual conventions, which is reported
in its Proceedings, and the proceedings
of which are published annually as Research
in Parapsychology.
In 1969 the Association took a giant
step in advancing the field by affiliating
with the American Association for the
Advancement of Science. The work of the
association is a reported in the Journal
of Parapsychology and the Journal of the
American Society for Psychical Research.
Its first president was R. A. McConnell,
then of the Biophysics Department, University
of Pittsburgh, and the first vice-president
was Gertrude R. Schmeidler of the Department
of Psychology, City College of New York.
Rhea White was named Secretary Treasurer.
Four others were elected to the Council,
bringing the total to seven: Margaret
Anderson, Remi Cadoret, Karlis Osis, and
W. G. Roll.

Before there was SciFi reality-TV series,
Ghost Hunters, the “real”
paranormal/parapsychological investigators,
Hans HolzerThe Warrens,Christopher Chacon,
Loyd Auerbach, John Zaffis Jr. and William
Roll were each, independently, conducting
their own extraordinary research into
all things considered paranormal such
as ghosts and poltergeistsm possession
and the otherworlds.
As a result of television shows about
the “paranormal”, many new
self-proclaimed paranormal investigators
and research groups have sprouted up all
over the world. But make no mistake, today’s
so-called paranormal researchers still
cannot hold a candle to to the select
few other world-renowned veteran paranormal
experts that have been conducting field
and laboratory investigations long before
reality TV cast a spotlight into the otherside.
William Roll was born July 3, 1926 in
Bremen, Germany, where his father was
American Vice-Consul. His mother was Danish
and Roll attended Holte Gymnasium in Denmark.
He enrolled at the University of California,
Berkeley in 1947, and received the BA
in 1949, majoring in philosophy and psychology.
After a year of graduate work in sociology,
Roll went to Oxford University, to do
research in parapsychology under Professor
H.H. rice until 1957. He received the
M. Litt. degree for a thesis entitled
"Theory and Experiment in Psychical
Research," and was president of the
Oxford University Society for Psychical
Research. In 1957, Roll joined the staff
of the Parapsychology Laboratory, Duke
University, working under Dr. J.B. Rhine
until 1964. During this period he made
his first RSPK and haunt investigations,
was appointed project director of the
Psychical Research Foundation (PRF), and
elected president of the Parapsychological
Association.
WILLIAM ROLL
After Rhine's retirement from Duke in
1964, the PRF became a sponsored program
at the Department of Electrical Engineering.
In 1986, Roll was appointed Professor
of Psychical Research and Psychology at
West Georgia College (now the State University
of West Georgia) with funding from the
PRF. In 1989, he received the Ph.D. from
Lund University, Sweden, for a thesis
entitled "This World or That: An
Examination of Parapsychological Findings
Suggestive of the Survival of Human Personality
After Death." Since 1990, Roll has
been teaching parapsychology at the University
as an adjunct professor.
Roll has written more than 100 scientific
papers, several articles for anthologies,
edited 11 volumes of Research in Parapsychology,
and written four books, The Poltergeist
(1972), Theory and Experiment in Psychical
Research (1975, his M.Litt. thesis), Psychic
Connections (1995, with Lois Duncan),
and Unleashed (2004, with Valerie Storey).
In 1996 he received the Parapsychological
Association's award for a Distinguished
Career in Parapsychology. In 2002 he was
awarded the Dinsdale Memorial Award by
the Society for Scientific Investigation
for his RSPK studies.

Christopher Chacon is considered a prominent
authority on paranormal and supernatural
phenomena, anomalies, metaphysics and
the occult. In addition, he is a writer,
director and executive producer for television,
film, theatre and live-event attractions,
as well as an author and performance artist,
having begun his career in entertainment
as a master illusionist/magician.
A former field operative of The Office
of Scientific Investigation and Research
(O.S.I.R.), Chacon has traveled the world,
investigating and researching thousands
of cases of every type of paranormal phenomena,
including haunts and poltergeists, UFO
close encounters, possessions/ exorcisms,
miracles and divine intervention, all
types of psychic/parapsychological phenomena,
encounters with strange creatures and
unexplainable anomalous phenomena.
In entertainment, Chacon’s most
notable creation is the dramatic-adventure
TV series, "PSI Factor: Chronicles
of the Paranormal", starring Dan
Aykroyd, Michael Moriarity and Matt Frewer.
As writer, creator/executive producer
and director of this TV series, Chacon
produced 88 episodes that are currently
seen in over 30 countriesIn the early
1980’s, Chacon teamed up with Parapsychologist
Loyd Auerbach and together formed a research
team to investigate parapsychological
and psychic phenomena.
Christopher Chacon
In 1989, Chacon was recruited by The
Office of Scientific Investigation and
Research (O.S.I.R.), a well-funded private
scientific organization with the sole
purpose of assessing parapsychological
and paranormal phenomena worldwide. It
was O.S.I.R.’s advanced scientific
training that additionally equipped Chacon
with the skills to explore the vast amount
of psychic and parapsychological phenomena
he would encounter.
Chacon travelled the world investigating
and researching thousands of cases dealing
with altered-states of consciousness and
parapsychological and psychic phenomena,
including; clairvoyance, psychokinesis,
near death experiences, reincarnation,
precognition, psychometry, remote-viewing,
bi-location, channelling, mediumship and
astral projection. He has also investigated
thousands of cases of supernatural phenomena,
including; possessions and exorcisms,
haunts and poltergeists, miracles and
manifestations of divine intervention.
Additionally, Chacon has ventured on many
expeditions, archaeological explorations
and field research in various parts of
the world involving ancient mysticism,
metaphysical archaeological finds and
obscure supernatural/occult practices.
Because of Chacon’s experience
in confidentially investigating and researching
psychic phenomena, he continues to be
inundated with requests for help and assistance
from private individuals of all walks
of life, celebrities, dignitaries, government
agencies, corporations and high-ranking
officials from all religions.
Recognized as an authority, Chacon has
been featured on countless TV and radio
shows, including, "Unsolved Mysteries",
"Sightings", "Dateline",
"National Geographic Explorer",
"The Other Side", "Eye
to Eye with Connie Chung", "Discovery
Channel", "The Tom Snyder Show",
"20/20", "NBC, FOX, ABC,
BBC and Japan’s Nippon Network News".
Chacon was additionally a member of The
American Society of Psychical Research,
The American Association for the Advancement
of Science, The Society for Scientific
Exploration, Federation of American Scientists,
The New York Academy of Sciences and The
Center for Science Education.
Besides his work in parapsychology and
psychic research, Chacon makes his living
as a Creator/Writer, Director, Executive
Producer and Performer for television,
motion pictures and live-stage theatrical
productions. When not working in entertainment
or parapsychology, Chacon is involved
with several humanitarian and environmental
causes. He currently resides along California’s
central coast.
